BEAUTY COLUMN MOCK UP
FOR WELL WELL WELL MAGAZINE
Do you run out of the door with no time to spare, a quick scrub of teeth, chuck a brush through your hair and hope for the best? Making time for a natural makeup routine, and checking in with yourself, could be a game-changer for your wellbeing.
Have you considered dedicating 10 minutes to yourself as a purposeful wellbeing moment? Makeup has always been my 15 minutes of salvation. The game face before the day ahead. Whether getting out in time for the school run or a work zoom call. Added pressures of lockdowns, demanding schedules, plus our ever-changing hormones, have us feeling more fraught than flawless. Incorporating mindfulness into your beauty rituals can help you reconnect. Try this simple natural makeup routine, activating our take on modern mindfulness. If you have children or are triggered by noise, you may consider using noise-cancelling headphones alongside this ritual.
Disclaimer- If affirmations are new to you, or you woke up feeling a little cynical today. Start each affirmation with ‘I am learning’. During your premenstrual phase, you are more likely to disbelieve affirmations or get frustrated. That's ok, try again in a few days. Spend some time just being present while you touch your skin. Recognise your thoughts as they pop into your consciousness. You can even experiment with your own words.
Find some natural light, grab your natural makeup favourites and an open mind. Welcome to your 15 minutes of affirming me time:
Skin self love: Whether you choose a skin nourishing botanical face oil or your favourite natural spf for this step, apply, with love, all over your face for a dewy and hydrated glow. Press and push into the skin with the fleshy pads of your clean fingers. A simple jojoba oil has the right amount of skin boosting natural ingredients to pep you up while leaving your complexion plumped up and awakened. Ramp up the coverage by adding a layer of your favourite bb cream or natural foundation, evening out your skin tone and ready to face the world. As you massage, touch and stroke your skin. Recite the affirmation ‘I am restored, uplifted and ready.’
Blush me up: adding colour to your face can lift your complexion and elevate your mood. Opt for neutrals to incite a calm, grounded experience. Or reach for the bright heights of fuchsias or rosy tones to help you feel fresh and playful. Pat into cheeks, lips, and eyes for a seamless monochromatic makeup finish. Got worries on your mind? Tap the colour into your skin with the pads of your fingertips, reminding yourself that ‘This too will pass.’
Eye-love-you: Spending a little extra time on a simple eye makeup can help you feel special when life's challenges might be weighing up. A sweep of dreamy matte cream shadow all over the lid with a pop of shimmer in the inner corner of the eye, remains one of the most failsafe simple eye routines. Blend using a fluffy brush into and slightly above the crease and feel the softness through the contours of your eye shape. Close your eyes and repeat the affirmation, ‘Life is beautiful and I have time.’
Think glowing thoughts: adding a cream highlighter or nourishing balm to your beauty ritual is an easy tip to make you feel the high vibrations you've been craving. Whether it's a silvery sheen giving ethereal glow or a clear nourishing balm. Apply high on the cheekbones to add radiance to your complexion. Tilt back your head, imagine the warm sun on your face and say the affirmation ‘Light beams from my face and flows all over me.’
Holding space for yourself and giving yourself this time every day, or the days you have the energy can help affirm you while you remind yourself. ‘I am worthy and I honour myself.’ Having the added benefit of skin-loving, earth honouring products in your beauty rituals is a welcomed synchronicity you can control.
