Not your Average Gift Shop
Walkthrough the door of The Collective Store and find yourself on a journey of discovery into the world of handmade, eclectic, and meaningful. Made with love, passion and heart. Belinda knew that the minute she stepped into The Collective Store that it was something special. With a collective of over 150 Australian designers, makers and artists this store is making waves in the way we shop.
After the first visit Belinda was back for every birthday, Christmas & teacher gift, even when she needed some retail therapy for herself. Officially sold on Australian handmade. The truth is after working in corporate for so long and after a huge personal health journey, she knew there had to be something else. Bringing together her abilities in working with people, managing relationships, juggling changing priorities simultaneously and her passion for beautiful things she knew she had to be part of something bigger. Being a local of Wynnum and having two boys at school in the community it gave her a vested interest in seeing the local makers, and in particular, women in business thrive. This is a gift shop with bravery, heart plus a collective difference.
Belinda’s ‘why’… as a ‘reforming shopaholic’ Belinda had a chance meeting with a sustainable fashion guru which got her thinking about her shopping habits, the impact on the planet and how little of anything is made here in Australia. “I saw the need for a shopping experience with all the choice of Instagram but with a human connection and the added perks like gift wrapping & air con!” 2020 has brought the opportunity to fuse another of Belinda’s passion projects ‘Give a frock’ a circular clothing project that you can now shop at The Collective Store. “ I tell people they will need at least 45 mins to see all that this store has to offer!”
The dream is to continue the 9 year history of The Collective Store supporting our amazing ethical Australian designers juggling families, day jobs and commitments with their side hustles, passion projects and ultimately their dream: creating beautiful things in Australia. “Many of our makers have a commitment to sustainability, are homegrown, design their own prints and fabrics. These are JacknJills of all trade are running all facets of their business, it’s an honour to represent their brands. I hope to increase the exposure for these artists and uncover more hidden gems!”
A final message from The Collective Store Owner Belinda, “Live with no regrets!” Even in the short time we’ve been in business we’ve overcome massive adversity, the bush fires, Coronavirus that’s seen us diversify our service to allow personal shopping with non-contact delivery but we continue to strive to do our best and support our artisans, the Australian economy and our customers with ways to support local and shop small. More now than ever it’s time to support a small Australian business. If you’ve heard that saying every time you buy from a small business an actual person does a little happy dance – that’s true – we welcome you to come do a little happy dance with us at…The Collective Store.
