Be YOU in Beauty

Full Disclosure
That tagline, when you see makeup advertised.
“The most beautiful version of you”, “Be your most beautiful self”, "You but better” Ok I have never seen that last one, but you get the gist.
It’s hard for makeup artists to put what we mean into words without a side of w@nky. I want you to look like you when you walk down to meet your lovers gaze.
Eye rounding, lip parting, cheek flushing first sight.
Really though, I’d love to talk about being you in bridal and I mean every element of your wedding. From the planning to choosing your dress to the celebrations. When you trust yourself you will never be disappointed even if the closest members of your bridal party or family might not agree.
Take this as permission to be you.
I always ask my brides about how they usually wear their makeup and if they even wear makeup. Lots of brides that come to me don’t and as a natural makeup specialist I think they feel comfortable in my hands. Getting to know you and what makes you feel great helps me style the makeup whether it be a barely-there look to a dramatic smokey eye and a statement lip. Truth be told even as a non-makeup wearer having your makeup professionally done will serve you well for the years to come when you look back on your images.
Don’t fight it.
I’ve learnt that we truly know what we love in our hearts and that when you are choosing your bridal style my best advice is: don’t fight it. Yes, it’s true we feel pressure to look amazing and to wow everyone. The best way to do that? Trust your heart in your decision-making process. Pinterest and Instagram have us all over the place with bridal style and inspiration, unattainable high-light levels, waist sizes, skin smoothing left right and centre. Sometimes there is a point when you realise you’ve researched enough.
It’s time to trust you.
FOMO is a thing in bridal. From finally saying yes to dress to deciding whether you go for eyes or lips or both in your makeup. Trusting your heart is the perfect anecdote to that. I use natural makeup in my bridal looks because I know the techniques and product combinations to last all day, look great in images and create timeless makeup looks that don’t age. I love when a bride brings me her ideas that I know are truly her dream look, the colours that make her heart sing and the willingness to allow me to do my job. There’s a bit of confusion about bridal makeup and looking good in photography- you don’t need a high coverage foundation just because it’s your wedding day, I like skin to look like skin. Highlighter is gorgeous but Woah there cowgirl let’s use a light hand, the glowy wet look skin you see in bridal campaigns may not be the best choice for looking back at yourself in ten years time or even just surviving the day.
FINALLY
BE YOU. THERE IS NOTHING OR NOBODY MORE BEAUTIFUL IN YOUR LOVERS’ EYES SO BE THAT PERSON THEY HAVE FALLEN IN LOVE WITH ON YOUR WEDDING DAY AND EVERY DAY.
